Words and faces

Chip , Brigitte Ventrillon Pierre Mornet, Ed Otherwise, 2001.
From 4 years.
(the album was reissued last)

Chip frowns. She did not recognize her mother.
Where is her hair so soft, why his eyes are so bad?
chip is very small.
Small as a flea. She slipped on the kitchen tiles, slip on the floor of the entrance, slide out ...

This story entered the world of the strange, alternating emotions, feelings that are emerging now as a tale to Alice in Wonderland (with, of course, the appearance of little white rabbit), between delicacy and melancholy. Pierre Mornet, the author well known illustrations beautiful album Things that scare (2006), painted - again - silent and troubled women, using acrylic and oil on canvas . These are very long brown hair, similar to the portrait of Mona Lisa (La Gioconda). In this way, there is much beauty in this book.
chip is frightened by his mother who appears sick, depressed, or at least suffering. Appreciate the fact that Brigitte Ventrillon had the delicacy not say anything, letting our imagination a little more yet. Thus, Chip comes to herself, she wonders, she does not understand what is happening, her mother is different ... completely absent.
The design reflects the loneliness, even a kind of anguish. The little girl leaves breathe out. Noises, black, bear, everything is more frightening. What, in this landscape, could provide some comfort that poor child?
Finally, Bullet find a mother recovered from her grief (well, for a time perhaps ...). It's his mom before! It then passes a plan where the mother is lying, inaccessible, on a red background (first page), a happy ending on a white background where the mother is the head chip rests finally (last page).

Brigitte Ventrillon has studied literature and was a teacher before working in children's books. She is now editor, director of the collection Junior League to other editions, and author of albums and documentaries for young people.

Pierre Mornet was born in 1972 in Paris. He studied graphic design at ESAG.

How Do Clean A Croquet Bedspread

Passing time ...

Summer Garmann of , Stian Hole, Ed Albin Michel Jeunesse, 2008. From 5 years.

Translated from Norwegian by Jean-Baptiste Coursaud.

is the end of summer, the three old aunts arrive as each year with their arthritis and their meringue pie. Tomorrow will come Garmann CP. He is afraid. But he made the incredible discovery: the adults are afraid!

Sometimes it seems hard to talk about an album when it seems you simply must! How to account for this work and its author without betraying its history? As usual, I can only stick with brief descriptions and you try to portray this set, according to my interpretation.

First, we must know that Summer of Garmann translated into over 10 languages received the "Best Album Award at the prestigious International Fair of Bologna and the Price Witches 2009 . Then you can discover The street Garmann (edited also in 2008) which follows the first volume. These two books present a wonderful job of photomontage, mixed with sweet and bucolic illustrations, full page or double page. "Our" book is born of the observation of the eldest son of the author and the fear of the unknown ... beginning of a beautiful adventure with Garmann, poetry, humor and tenderness.

is the end of the holidays, the boy prepares for her new life as a "big" school. His old aunts, visiting family, taking from him. Come the famous questions: " What you want to be when you grow up?" "And what does it feel to return to CP ... ?" Impossible for him to send off her "butterfly" in the belly (superbly imaged here) because it is very distressed at the idea of going to elementary school! However, he soon discovered that it is not the only one who fears or to ask existential questions. With her aunt Ruth, both will greatly amused by this situation. In fact, Garmann is not safe to be really ready to change everything. He has noticed that her friends - they - are better at reading and writing to him ... The evidence also that he is not ready for these things: he has not lost all his teeth while his aunts have their dentures! Garmann suddenly realizes that her aunts are still very very old. Are they going to die soon? Are the elderly were children? Stung by curiosity, he wants to discover their fears. And he will be surprised to learn some things ... In the end, we discover that the mother, also a little afraid of the return of Garmann. Specifically, she worried when her son crosses the highway while going to school with all those cars ...

Who Makes The Best Stereo Receiver 7.1

The Bad Seed ... A little linguistic

Man-Bonsai , Fred Bernard, François Roca, Ed Albin Michel Jeunesse, 2003 .
From 10 years.

Captain O'Murphy tells drinkers of a tavern its extraordinary meeting, during a sea voyage, with good men, a creature half man, half -tree-fated. When a sea voyage, two hundred years earlier, the potter Amedee was enlisted force on the ship's master stroke. Become a scapegoat, Amedee was finally abandoned on a desert island. On this island, it feels a seed falling on her head. Very slowly, he feels he is being transformed into a tree ... Collected by Chinese pirates, it is neat, and becomes their deadliest weapon. One day, Amedee became man recognizes the flag of the bonsai master stroke. His revenge is terrible. But the Chinese then abandoned at sea, to his fate, the man became a tree. Also, when it crosses Captain O'Murphy, Amedee asked him to end his days.

Excerpt: " The next day, a seed had germinated and a tiny plant two leaves unfolded. I tried to pull with the blade of my knife. In vain . In my nails black j'effeuillai the weed but she refused, ever more vigorously. Everything I ate seemed to feed the plant. "

Here is an album that I wanted to present a long time, offering players beautiful full-page illustrations, bright and very expressive, as always with François Roca. The story as a tragic tale is primarily an invitation to travel, in line with the writings of Jules Verne, Jack London, E. Hemingway ...
This story of pirates and the abduction of a man held in 1894, with all the elements invented in the middle of a rather rough time. Through its many details, the book takes us on his boat. We "live" sort of battle, the loneliness and despair of the man-bonsai. This story is a little sad, it may seem strange and addresses the question of the relationship to the body and processing it a bit repulsive, at least for some (more effect caused by the account by the images) as well as fascinating to others. This man became a superman tree, half-animal, half plant (monstrous). Innervated by the Chinese, it becomes a root (if not a parasite), mandrake, and completely imprisoned and more conscious of his awful fate. Another strong album of two artists F. Bernard F. Roca!

F red Bernard is a French author and illustrator, born in Beaune (Cote-d'Or) in 1969. He studied at the Ecole Emile Cohl in Lyon, rather than joining the family building firm. There he met Francis Roca, with whom he befriends. They perform together since 1996, many books for children, which enthrall her audiences and critics (price Witch 1997, Youth Prix Goncourt in 1996 and 2001, Baobab Prize 2001, prices Chretien de Troyes in 2003, etc.). In 2003 he published his first comic, Tenderness crocodiles, which he is the author and illustrator. This album has been adapted into comic since.
