Little Pet Shop Advent Calendar

From odds and ends: Not if the creature

Sentimento , Carl Norac, Rebko Dautremer,
Bilboquet-Ed Valbert, 2005. From 7 years.

A circus passed away.
The voice in the speaker shouted, "Sentimento, the circus of hot countries Come warm your hearts chilled by the winter circus Sen-ti-men-to!"

Frontiers of Pinocchio and Frankenstein's monster, Mr. Stein, a puppeteer, created after several failures "Sentimento" he wanted his image "it will my double, dummy! "he said . Too tired to continue its manufacturing, Mr. Stein left side of his invention, without suspecting that she would take her own life! At this stage it was still a "monster" in the words of Mr. Stein, who was very disappointed. The puppet tried to break the ice, to seduce him but nothing worked, he had only to leave permanently.
He gave himself a name, that of "Sentimento" because it was just the first word he heard in the streets cold in winter and "Sentimento" was just a circus of hot countries!
Rejected, the are people he met were frightened by his appearance. Some of them even threw stones. All seemed to judge him. Then in his flight, he met a girl named Selma. It was a bit special, a little witch, Selma was dancing lights.
This beautiful new friendship took an early end face of human stupidity. Sentimento who sought a little heat was hunting with dogs by shooting ... "The puppet with the voice of bird had flown into small pieces. "The puppet was missing yet no heart, so that upon leaving this earth," left his scarf in the wind with him "she caught the soft shoulder of Selma.

Here is an excellent duo Rebecca and Carl Norac Dautremer working together on an album poetic and sensitive. For cons, the little downside is that the front page suggests that this book is bound to circus world when in fact not at all! The circus is only passing on the landscape. However, the large format (25cm x 35cm ) we can admire without constraint, beautiful color illustrations of Rebecca D. The typography is itself worked, fine and serrated (which is nice but it must be good readers in order to make them easily).
The text describes this need for love, being loved, he paid tribute to the difference, praises tolerance. This story of friendship, sad and sordid please perhaps even more for large adults.

I do this over the two artists. Several bills have been written on this subject on this blog for which Carl Norac: head in the air to grow a secret ; My best friend in the world ... for Rebekah Dautremer: Babayaga; Nasreddine; Kerity ...

Can You Survive Off Only Vegetables?

cute as this ... Figure

Anger Albert Françoise Laurent, Pascal Vilcollet,
Ed's Ricochet, 2008. For 3 years.

It's cute and nice, "Bibi", but only if Nenuphar saying that. To hear of his friends puts him out of Albert. And there, more "Bibi! Place "Bebert", "Bebert the wicked", "Bebert the Terrible".

One name, two faces, a balance to find.
The colorful illustrations and vibrant by the ubiquitous red, with lots of beauty around the two main characters of this album: one brother (Albert) and his sister (water lily). Presented features very tender, those little children, Albert is protective, loving and concerned for the welfare of its small sister. The scene takes place mainly at school, at a time of recreation.
Albert nicknamed "Bibi" by his little sister (who loves kissing) is faced with the constant ridicule of his classmates about it. But there, enough is enough ... When a ball smashed into his head violently, this little rabbit so nice usually began to change dramatically, until they become totally scary, even monstrous!

His canines lengthened at the end of its paws claws appeared, Albert is now giving way to "Bebert" the villain. It was in such a condition, ready to crush everything in its path. Water Lily was only able to restore his face before.
Finally, this duality was revealed that he managed to secure compliance with the buddies and get back to just himself, just Albert!

Ibou Min 'and turtles Bolilanga, Franck Provost, Delphine Jacquot
Editions Thierry Magnier, 2009. From 8 years .

On Bolilanga Island, Indonesia, villagers protect turtles long ago. Since that day distance where Ibou Min ', a young woman loved by all for his kindness, became itself a magnificent turtle ...

Ibou Min 'was a young woman m Arie fisherman turtle. T lways smiling, very close to his son (single) and available to help others, she was loved by all. In his village, everyone called him "Ibou" which means "mother".
One day when she and her son went fishing, they disappeared at sea shortly afterwards saw the villagers on the island of Bolilanga, turtles face similar to that of Ibou Min ' and followed by another turtle younger.
Although times of famine, turtles (formerly so rare) became increasingly numerous. The villagers then realized that their deceased children were now with Min, who watched over them.
Since then, over one fisherman Bolilanga not touch the turtles. They have become sacred.
Excerpt: " Today, this village in the Gulf of Tomini, it is taboo to hunt or even to disturb a turtle, and some former perpetuate the custom. In each of their crossings they lay open a coconut on the beach Bolilanga . "
The illustrations are delicate, they carefully transcribe what we could imagine the spirit of Asian and Oceanian that emerges from this book very well illuminated. The format of this very long album accentuates even more precious appearance. Pity that the typography is not itself worked a little more, but this is not the essence of what is learned from this book through a legendary story, defended or at least inform us first and foremost the need to protect the environment and rare species.

Author Franck Provost spent a year on the Indonesian island with a population sensitive to the preservation of fauna and flora. A novel parallel of this story was written for older children, under the name turtles Bolilanga .

Pharmaceutical Calculations 2010

Joe Sacco, Gaza, 1956, in the margins of history / 2009

story of the massacre of Khan Yunis in 1956 when Israeli forces killed 275 Palestinians, according to UN figures. The author takes care to confront witnesses, to highlight some inconsistencies, it must be said that he began his research during the second intifada, that is to say, forty years later. Disciplined approach, Sacco does not cover abuses. Little respect for international law Israel's, benevolence of the United States against him, degrading measures taken on the Palestinians, the relative impunity vis-à-vis crimes contribute to "plant the hatred in their hearts." Nothing can excuse this, the weight of the past does not behave this way today. Compliance and the existence of Israel should be matched and respect the existence of Palestine as an independent state. It is a matter of justice, morality. Read this book does not condone the attacks, it helps to ask one more chapter to this necessary duty to remember which Primo Levi invited us all. No anti-Semitism in these pages, the facts, nothing but facts, history really.
